Very few sports are as captivating as ski jumping. Since the beginning of time, humans have looked to the birds in the sky with an internal desire to know what the sensation of flying might feel like. Aside from skydiving, ski jumping might be the next best way to satisfy that curiosity, assuming you have the guts to do it.
Shot at the Holmenkollen Ski Jump in Oslo, Norway, photographer David Ryle masterfully captures the essence of ski jumping in his series Ski Hopp. The series documents skiers from their preparation of the jump, right up until the moment before take-off, all while highlighting the sheer scale, architecture, and vastness of the Holmenkollen jump. It’s nothing short of breathtaking.
